Wildlife Habitat Pod Grant

6 August 2024

We are excited to announce that, in partnership with Ecology and Restoration Australia (ERA), we recently received funding from Maroondah City Council for our latest project, Jedabila habitat pods.

Small ground mammals, reptiles, and amphibians are vulnerable to predation following habitat loss through natural disasters such as flood and fire. Jedabila habitat pods (“Jedabila” means animal in Yorta Yorta) are designed to offer wildlife short to medium term refuge in areas affected by temporary or ongoing habitat loss.

Traditional Owner Kai will teach community members how to build wildlife habitat pods using Indigenous weaving techniques. ERA zoologists will then deploy the pods in local reserves to be used by wildlife. As far as we know, this is one of the first initiatives to involve both Traditional Owners and the local community in making habitat pods for wildlife!

Keep an eye on our socials for details about upcoming community workshops.
