Child Safety & Wellbeing Policy

Eco Warriors Australia is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children and young people who engage with our programs, resources, events and online platforms. This policy outlines our commitment to child safety and the systems, behaviours and responsibilities that ensure a child-safe environment across all areas of our work.

This policy applies to:

  • All Eco Warriors Australia staff, contractors and volunteers
  • Partner organisations, collaborators and service providers
  • Any individual representing Eco Warriors Australia in schools, community settings, online spaces or on Country

Eco Warriors Australia:

  • Maintains a zero‑tolerance approach to child abuse
  • Prioritises children’s rights, voices and agency
  • Ensures all interactions with children are respectful, inclusive and culturally safe
  • Embeds child-safe practices into all programs, communications and decision-making
  • Upholds the Victorian Child Safe Standards and relevant national guidelines

We actively support children to:

  • Express their views and contribute to decisions that affect them
  • Feel safe, heard, and respected
  • Access information in age-appropriate, accessible formats
  • Participate in ways that reflect their abilities, identities and interests

We are also committed to creating culturally safe environments for all children, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. We respect and honour connection to Country, culture and community and engage with First Nations partners in culturally respectful ways.

Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Act in accordance with our Child Safety Code of Conduct
  • Have a current Working With Children Check
  • Maintain professional boundaries at all times
  • Use safe, respectful and inclusive communication
  • Follow reporting procedures for any concerns or disclosures
  • Complete required training and ongoing professional development
Reporting Concerns

Eco Warriors Australia takes all concerns, allegations, and disclosures seriously. We commit to:

  • Responding promptly and appropriately
  • Supporting children and families throughout the process
  • Reporting to relevant authorities as required by law
  • Maintaining confidentiality and privacy where appropriate

All staff and volunteers are required to report any reasonable belief of child abuse or risk of harm.

Privacy & Information Management

We handle all personal information in accordance with privacy legislation and our internal privacy procedures. Information relating to child safety concerns is managed sensitively and securely.

Continuous Improvement

Eco Warriors Australia reviews this policy and all child-safe practices regularly to ensure alignment with legislation, best practice, and community expectations. Feedback from children, families, staff and partners informs ongoing improvement.
