We had a great day planting with Grade 4 and 5 students from Campbellfield Heights Primary School in some typical Melbourne weather – rain, sunshine and even a rainbow! We had lots of eager volunteers (especially for banging in tree guards!) who contributed to restoring this important site.

We are excited to be working with Melbourne Water and Campbellfield Heights Primary school to help revegetate an area of Galada Tamboore, an urban cooling revegetation project along the Merri Creek, near Somerset Road, Campbellfield. Galada Tamboore is an area of cultural significance for the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung community.
We met with students to collect seed and cuttings from a previously revegetated area along Merri Creek. We had lots of fun propagating these (check out our photos!) and look forward to planting them later in the year.

We’ve been busy recently hosting eight wildlife rope bridge building workshops with the Yarra Ranges community. We’ve been able to share information about our amazing local wildlife with the community, and have already had some unusual animals trying to use our bridges! We’re looking forward to installing these in storm-damaged areas in the Yarra Ranges National Park later this year.

We headed to the La Trobe Valley this week to propagate native plants with Grade 3 and 4 students from Churchill Primary School. We’re looking forward to planting these in Gaskin Park on National Tree Day!

We had lots of fun with Grade 4/5s from Ardeer Primary School learning how to propagate native plants. This section of Kororoit Creek is fairly disturbed, so it was great to see lots of native birds as well. We’re looking forward to planting with students along Kororoit Creek in a few months.

Exciting news! Our habitat pods have landed in Warrien Reserve and Scott Street Reserve, ready for native frogs and lizards to use as shelter! We’re monitoring the pods so we can’t wait to see who uses them…

Today we showed the Sustainability Leaders from Wandin North Primary School how to propagate local native plants. We had a wander through Picnic Hills Bushland Reserve to gather our cuttings, and then back to school to propagate them. We can’t wait until our planting day later this year!

We had a great time with the Wandin North Primary School Sustainability Leaders learning about cultural heritage on a rather frosty morning!
Kai spoke about his journey from Yorta-Yorta country and coming to a new tribe in Wurundjeri country, describing the animals that he saw along the way. Everyone warmed up with a Welcome dance and then drew some amazing stories using traditional Aboriginal symbols. We had a great game of marngrook “hot potato” with lots of thoughtful questions about Aboriginal traditions from the group.

Students from Yering Primary School, Coldstream Primary School, Yarra Glen Primary School, Lilydale Primary School and St Patrick’s Lilydale have had a great time learning about Aboriginal cultural this week through Welcome ceremony dances, storytelling, Aboriginal artwork and marngrook.
Kai showed students the different echoes of the digeridoo, with a mini corroboree, and gave some tips for how to read Country. Students were able to tell their own story using traditional symbols, and sessions finished with a fun game of Marngrook “hot potato”. Session leader Kai was proud to continue his legacy through sharing and teaching the oldest living culture in the world.
